Garden Buildings — Doncaster & South Yorkshire

Garden Buildings in Doncaster

Pergolas, verandas, garden rooms, hot tub shelters and covered outdoor kitchens.

The difference between a garden you look at and a garden you use is usually somewhere to sit that works when it is not perfect weather. In South Yorkshire that is most of the year.

We design and build bespoke outdoor structures across Doncaster — pergolas, verandas, garden rooms, hot tub shelters, covered seating and outdoor kitchens — including the base, the drainage and the ducting they need.

The base comes first

Every structure we build starts underground: a level, drained, correctly sized base, with any ducting for power, lighting or water already run into it. Retro-fitting a cable into a finished patio means lifting what you have just paid for, so we ask about it at the quoting stage and duct for things you might want later even if you are not doing them now.

Hot tubs deserve a specific mention. A filled six-person tub with people in it is approaching two tonnes concentrated over a small area. That needs a reinforced slab or a fully supported paved base designed for it — decking and standard patio build-ups are not enough, and the failure mode is not subtle.

What we build

A pergola defines a seating or dining area without enclosing it, and it takes climbing planting beautifully. A veranda is roofed and attached to the house — the one that genuinely extends how many months the garden is usable. A garden room is enclosed, insulated and wired: an office, a gym, or somewhere to put the teenagers. A hot tub shelter combines roof, screening and the right base. An outdoor kitchen is a covered run with worktop, power and space for a grill or a pizza oven.

Materials and finish

Timber frames on galvanised post anchors rather than posts buried straight into concrete, which is where rot always starts. Roofing in solid sheet, polycarbonate or open slats depending on whether you want shelter or shade. Cladding and screening chosen to sit with the rest of the garden rather than shouting at it.

Planning permission

Most garden structures fall under permitted development if they are single storey, no more than 2.5m at the eaves within two metres of a boundary, and do not cover more than half the garden. Listed buildings and conservation areas — Bawtry in particular — work differently. We will flag anything that looks like it needs checking with the council before you commit.

Electrics

We duct for power during the groundworks and bring in a qualified electrician for the connection and certification. Outdoor power is notifiable work and it is not somewhere to cut corners.

Work we can undertake

  • Level, drained base built first
  • Ducting for power and lighting laid before the base
  • Timber frame, posts set on galvanised anchors
  • Roofing — solid, polycarbonate or slatted
  • Cladding and screening to match the garden
  • Paving or decking to the structure
  • Electrics by a qualified electrician where wanted
  • Timber treated and finished

Before you call

Garden Buildings — the questions we get asked

Do I need planning permission?

Most garden structures fall under permitted development if they are single storey, under 2.5m at the eaves near a boundary, and do not cover more than half the garden. Listed buildings and conservation areas are different. We will flag anything that looks like it needs checking.

What base does a hot tub need?

A reinforced concrete slab or a fully supported paved base. A filled six-person tub with people in it is close to two tonnes over a small footprint — decking and standard patio bases are not enough.

Can you run power out to it?

We duct for it during the groundworks and bring in a qualified electrician for the connection and certification.
