Drainage and Excavation on an Open Site
Land drainage across an open site, dug and laid before any surfacing.
Drainage is the part of a job nobody photographs and everybody notices when it is missing. This is what it actually looks like: trenches cut to a consistent fall, running to a discharge point, before anything is built on top.
What the job involved
The runs were set out to fall consistently along their whole length — a land drain with a flat section in the middle is a soakaway with extra steps. Trenches were excavated, perforated pipe bedded in granular fill and wrapped, and the whole system run to an outfall with the capacity to take it.
Access and plant
Larger sites take larger machines. Rear gardens do not — which is why we also run a micro excavator that fits through openings as narrow as 750mm and tracked power barrows for muck away by hand. It is the difference between a back garden being a straightforward job and an impossible one.
