Resin Driveways
Resin Bound Driveway and Turning Area
A full frontage in resin bound, laid up to an open garage block.
Resin bound is a surfacing system, not a driveway on its own. It goes down at around 15 to 18mm, so everything about how it performs is decided by the base it is troweled onto.
What the job involved
The area was excavated and a compacted Type 1 sub-base built up in layers, then a binder course laid and allowed to cure before any resin went near it. The resin and aggregate were mixed on site in a forced-action mixer and troweled out in a continuous pour, so there are no cold joints across the middle of the drive.
A block paved threshold takes the turning loads at the entrance, where a resin edge would otherwise be the first thing to break down.
Why UV-stable resin matters
We use a UV-stable resin. Cheaper resins yellow noticeably after a couple of summers, and once a drive has gone that colour there is nothing to be done about it short of relaying the surface.
